Moved in Japan: do you need to change your pension address?

Short answer

If Japan Pension Service already has your My Number linked to your Basic Pension Number, a separate pension address-change notification is generally not required. Address changes in the resident register are normally reflected through data linkage.

Main exceptions

  • Your My Number is not linked to your pension record.
  • You do not have a My Number because you live overseas.
  • You are a short-term foreign resident.
  • You have registered a mailing/residential address different from your resident-register address.

Where do you report it?

If you are in Employees’ Pension, tell your employer when a separate report is required. If you are a Category 1 National Pension member, the procedure is handled through your municipality.

Important

“No separate pension address form” does not mean you can skip the municipal moving-in, moving-out, or address-change procedure. Pension records rely on the resident-register information being correct.
